When you print to PDF, the browser keeps text as text, links as links and fonts as fonts. The result is small, searchable and friendly to applicant tracking systems. Canvas-based “download as image” tools do the opposite: they flatten everything into pixels.

This editor prints the same document you see in the preview — not a second rendering path. What you proofread is what the recruiter receives.

The only three print settings that matter

  • Destination: “Save as PDF”.
  • Paper size: A4. The layout is designed at 210 × 297 mm.
  • Margins: Default. The document sets its own page margins, so every sheet keeps the same white space.

Scale should stay at 100% or “Default”. If you find yourself at 90% to make it fit, the content is too long — edit the content instead.

Keep the accent colors

Browsers disable background colors by default to save ink. Expand “More settings” and enable “Background graphics”. Without it, accent rules, contact chips and section markers print white.

Print it once on paper Before sending a resume to a dream job, print one copy at home. Screen calibration lies; a real page reveals contrast and margin problems immediately.

When your resume spills to page two

The preview draws a dashed guide wherever a new A4 page begins. If a section splits awkwardly, shorten the bullets above it or reduce density. A second page is acceptable; a lonely three-line second page is not.

  • Never let a single bullet or the last line of a role sit alone on page two.
  • Keep the most recent role fully on page one whenever possible.
  • Add a short “Continued” note only if the second page could be mistaken for a separate document.

Name and check the file

The export dialog names the file after the name in your front matter. Use a plain Latin file name if you are applying through an international portal, then open the PDF once to confirm the title bar, page count and clickable links.

  • ava-chen-resume.pdf — clear, sortable and safe across systems.
  • Avoid spaces, emoji and version numbers in the final file name.
  • Check that email and portfolio links are clickable in the exported PDF.
