Why MD Resume

A resume builder that respects your time and your data.

Most builders ask for an account, upload your career history to a server, and lock the good design behind a paywall. This one is a single Markdown file in your browser.

Private by architecture

No backend, no account, no analytics profile. Drafts and snapshots live in localStorage on your device. Nothing is uploaded, ever.

True A4, live

The preview is the document: real A4 dimensions, real typography, real page flow. No surprises after you hit export.

Real text PDF

Exports use your browser’s print engine, so the PDF keeps selectable text, working links, embedded fonts and a clean structure for ATS.

Six templates, six structures

Nebula, Aurora, Monolith, Signal, Atlas and Split share one Markdown source. Switch the entire look — and the layout — without touching a word.

Version history, offline

Autosaves plus manual snapshots. Roll back a rewrite, recover a deleted bullet, or download a JSON backup — all locally.

Speaks four languages

English, 简体中文, 日本語 and Español, with locale-aware samples and CJK-friendly font fallbacks.

Three steps

From blank file to finished PDF.

No onboarding wizard. No drag-and-drop marquee. Just text.

Step 01

Write in Markdown

Front matter holds your name and contacts. ## makes a section, ### Role · Company | Dates makes an entry. If you know Markdown, you already know the app.

Step 02

Shape the look

Pick a template, an accent and a density. Every change lands instantly on the A4 page while your content stays put.

Step 03

Export, don’t screenshot

Open the print dialog and save as PDF. Enable background graphics for accent tints. Your text stays sharp and selectable.

The collection

Six layout systems. One source file.

Each template is built for A4, print contrast and clean document structure — not for a portfolio screenshot.

The format

One file. Zero lock-in.

Your resume is ordinary Markdown with a tiny front matter block. Keep it in Git, sync it with iCloud, email it, or open it in any editor. Nothing is proprietary.

  • Front matter Name, role and contact links live in simple key: value pairs.
  • Sections and entries ## creates a section; ### Role · Company | Dates creates a dated entry.
  • Safe by default Bullets, bold labels, links and quotes are supported. Raw HTML is ignored.
  • Any language Write in English, Chinese, Japanese or Spanish — the PDF embeds what you type.

FAQ

Answers before you start.

The short version: it’s free, it’s local, and your PDF is real text.

What is MD Resume?
MD Resume is a browser-based Markdown resume builder. You write plain Markdown, choose one of six A4 templates, and export a print-quality PDF. There is no account system and no server-side storage.
Is it really free? Where is the catch?
Yes — the tool and every template are free. The site is funded by clearly labeled ads on marketing and guide pages; the editor stays ad-free. Ads load only if you allow them.
Where is my resume stored?
In your browser’s localStorage, on your device. Drafts autosave locally and manual versions stay in History. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing site data removes it, so download a Markdown or JSON backup for safekeeping.
Is the exported PDF ATS-friendly?
The PDF is generated by your browser’s print engine, so it contains real selectable text, links and fonts instead of a flattened image. Simple single-column layouts make parsing easier too.
Which Markdown syntax is supported?
Front matter fields (name, title, email, phone, location, website, github, linkedin, avatar), ## sections, ### Role · Company | Dates entries, bullet and ordered lists, bold, italic, links, blockquotes, code and rules. Raw HTML is ignored.
Can I write in Chinese, Japanese or Spanish?
Yes. The editor, templates and PDF support CJK text, and the interface is available in English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Spanish. CJK glyphs use your system’s fonts during print, so a device with proper CJK fonts gives the best result.
